1914 Buffalo 5c Suspect Date For RPD

I cannot figure out what is happening with this date: especially the downward-pointing protrusion from the horizontal bar of the 4.

The side by side also seems to illustrate a more upright 1 adjacent to the 4 on the PCGS example compared to the op's date.

Any ideas?

Maybe Die Deterioration, which can change the shape of the devices by the continuous polishing of the die edges.
