crab eater Pillar of the Community Australia 625 Posts	Posted 03/21/2022 04:23 am G'Day again, Just noodled this coin and have not seen one like it before. It has got raised 'bubble like' features which are in sort of a straight line. Hard to photograph. The reverse is normal. What do you think has caused this and have you seen one similar? Sap Moderator Australia 16817 Posts	Posted 03/21/2022 8:13 pm On coins of pretty much any other country, it'd be dismissed as corrosion bubbles forming underneath the nickel plating. But Australian coins are still solid cupronickel, not plated. The gas bubble theory is as good as any, though I'd expect to see some other evidence of extreme heating (discolouration, rippling, rim damage, etc). Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
