Hi, guys,

I just bought a nice coin from ebay. It's beautiful, but evidently the seller, or whoever he bought the coin from, is a heavy smoker. The slab reminds me of my car when I smoked.

Is there a way to sanitize a slab safely—any common household product? I know the slabs are not airtight and would rather not use something harsh that might damage the coin.

Thanks!

I always wipe the slabs with a tissue wet with 90% alcohol.

That removes the dirt and tobacco smell.

I suggest using just 70% isopropyl alcohol.
90% can melt the plastic a bit.

Yep. Rubbing Alcohol. Evaporates too quickly so the vapors have no chance of penetrating the slab.

Rubbing alcohol.

I have only ever used 70%, so that is probably a good recommendation.

Yeah, alcohol works and there is also a "slab cleaner" you can use to get rid of annoying scratches also

If you check at Walmart in the auto section you will find headlight cleaners. That should work on slabs.

Before using ANY product test on a slab you don't care about of the same TGP and vintage.

The plastics used have changed over time. And what is safe, say on a hard acrylic might not be safe on a softer version.

FWIW, I've used Novus 1 and 2 on an NGC slab from 2013.
