The U.S. issued small-sized silver certificates ($1, $5 and $10 only) beginning with series of 1928, and all now obsolete. Prior to sometime in 1968, they could still be redeemed for silver bullion. Your note is quite common, with over 700 million printed, and was the final $1 silver certificate series printed (1957B). In the condition this one is in, it's worth little (if any) over face value, but an interesting find nonetheless!
