hello all,

I was raised and currently reside in Maine,USA. I'm a novice coin collector, and have only been collecting for a couple years. Mostly through yard sales, coin roll hunting, friends and family. last year I inherited part of my grandfathers collection, through my father and uncle. there is still a big part of it missing, which I am trying to locate through other family members. My grandfathers father, my great grandfather, was the president of a bank in Massachusetts. My Dad remembers his father telling him about the trips to the Mint the two use to take.(grand father and great grandfather.) So maybe there are some proofs in my current collection? I have and will have many more questions for this community. I figured I might as well join. Since a lot of my research through google search, landed me on posts in this forum. So have I come to the right place? is this the definitive coin forum on the internet? I absolutely love history local and otherwise. as well as collectables, valuables, antiques, etc.. so coin collecting seemed right up my ally. Because of my love of history and coins so much, and after some research I decided to start metal detecting as
well. since it goes hand and hand with everything I enjoy. Its been amazing, I just need some professional advice regarding; identification, grading, cleaning,(or not cleaning apparently) etc. Thanks in advance for all your hopefully helpful info.

, this indeed is the right place to learn as we have huge experience around here, ask and post pictures away! With certain exceptions, only 100% acetone soaks are one of the best ways to properly 'clean' coins with gunk on them.
I also love coins just a little too much .
There is an awesome level of knowledge here to keep one busy for some while...
