As I said before, I know very little about ancient coins. I have two included in one lot that states what the pictures says. I researched and they seem different. One site had Angel rev. and I thought one of the pictured coins seemed very similar while the other didn't. Also, one is coin oriented and the other medal. Is that normal?
Thank you for your time.

Ancient coins are much more variable than modern coins. Each die is cut manually and so can be different in style and the exact lettering of the legend. They don't have a specific orientation - if they're coin or medal, or any other angle, it's luck.

The coins are not in great shape, so attributing them is difficult. The 'angel' is Victory, walking left with a wreath, which is what the descriptions says.

I don't know if it's Valens, but they are late Roman bronzes, and so it could be.

Thank you. This is very difficult as there is so much information out there. And yes, most of the coins are not in very good condition and are hard to photograph. I am practicing and getting better though. Thank you for your time again.

They both have a SECVRITAS-REIPVBLICAE reverse, and the second one seems to have the mintmark CONST, which is Arles (also known as Constantia). That would mean it is either Valens, Valentinian I or Gratian, like one of these: http://numismatics.org/ocre/results...xt:SECVRITAS

Presumably, someone was able to make out the lettering on the obverse to the left of the emperor and picked out 'VAL' for Valens and fewer letters than would be needed for Valentinian.

Yep, way to much information for me to comprehend. Mondern coins are much easier to research. Thank you for the site though. I will try using it to improve my listings.

The second coin is from Constantinople, with workshop at the end-- CONS[A]

if it was from Arles, the workshop would be in front-- [P]CON

Thank you both! Perhaps I should just sell these to one of you. You have the expertise obviously. Are they worth anything to either of you? I can't seem to find values for them. If you are interested, just email me. Thanks again and have a good evening.
