Good afternoon, all I have been getting a bit more detailed in my searches and this popped up, Still not an expert at this by any means but I think I got this one right. Just looking for some verification and education on how to identify Doubled dies that are not just absolutely obvious. Thank you in advance for your constructive criticism. Enjoy

Sorry for the multitude of photos I thought this was necessary for this kind of evaluation.

Looks more like an issue with die wear and slight Machine Doubling. On a DDO, you need to look at the centers of the devices to see a spread in the devices.
Look at the images below on the Variety Vista listing for just one die from that year/mint.
http://www.varietyvista.com/04b%20J...0DDDO001.htm
On these images all of the devices are normal except on one area. Note the Description Line:

Quote:
Description: Medium spread as an extra lower curve to the Right of the 6 of the date.

Why is the important? Because only those devices mention in that description are affected by the DDO. All the other devices will be normal in shape, just like your coin including the date. So it is not a doubled die. Die wear makes the devices distorted in the direction of the closest rim direction. The spread on this DDO is on the '60' area on those devices/digits. Part of die wear is die flow lines on the fields. You can see these on your fields. The devices enlarge a bit on all of the devices, but this is just die wear, not part of a doubled die. It is a die event that happens as the die ages. Hope this helps. Anything not clear ask in another question. Always ready to share what I know and see on your coin.

Thank you coop as always great information. I see what you mean. Just out of curiosity any idea what made the mark on the Mint mark.
