hmmm they are both marsupials opossum and possum, but aren't closely related. Our possums like hanging out in trees and are terrifying at night due to the reflection at the back of their eyes, almost like dropbears.

Day 50Just six rolls to noodle today but I finally found a 2016 olympics coloured ring coin:  Total number of two dollar coins noodled: 4700 Number of different coins found: 70 Number of coins still to find: 10

Cool, they just don't look as attractive when worn. I think that one has a slight double rim near the bottom part (5 - 6 o'clock).
I agree too, Possum Magic was one of the um ah - wallpapery issues of coins along with Mr Squiggle, Wiggles and any other dodgy kiddies show (Expect Bluey or some other Aussie Kiddy thing next).

So do ours. They also like to get fried on electric wires or get a zap and fall to their deaths. They are also incredibly loud when walking over tin roof tops. Not uncommon for noobs to think a person is on the roof. They're a protected species in Oz (unless you're a python) but a feral pest in NZ. I've heard they even make possum fur lingerie in NZ (those Kiwis.....  ) Not sure why they were introduced to Kiwi land. I don't think it was accidental. In Brisbane we have the brush tail possum and the smaller (and cuter) ring tail possum. I think the Oz possums are better looking than the northern opossums.   |

A quick look on ebay shows sellers trying to flog hundreds of security rolls of these 2 coins, so it seems they have been officially released. I guess I better add them to my list. Hopefully some will eventually find their way into general circulation. Day 54Just $250 in two dollar coins to go through today. Nothing new, same old coins keep turning up:  Total number of two dollar coins noodled: 4825 Number of different coins found: 70 Number of coins still to find: 12

From what I have read, it seems they were introduced here in 1837 to kick start a "Fur trade!!" I kid you not. Of course such a thing never took off. People just loved fur clothes back then not regarding the cruelty. Rabbits were released here in the 1850s to also stimulate the cuddly animal fur trade (Seemed our flightless birds and tuataras were not cuddly). Like everything else introduced here in the 1800s except classic halfcrowns - it caused irreversible damage to our unique biota. |

Day 5610 rolls of $2 to noodle today. The 2022 frontline workers coins have definitely arrived in circulation:  Judging by the amount of pale purple paint flakes floating around, I don't think these coins are going to hold much of their colour for long.  No other coins I was looking for. Total number of two dollar coins noodled: 5075 Number of different coins found: 71 Number of coins still to find: 11
