From your description I only find a 1776 Massachusetts Colonial Copper. According to my book, this particular coin is considered unique and is quite rare. The Coin I'm talking about has what looks like a tree on the obverse and has the words Massachusetts State. On the reverse, the coin shows Liberty holding a sphere in her right hand, a staff in the left hand and she is sitting on a globe facing left. On the reverse is the date 1776 and the words Liberty and Virtue.

Its also possible that you have a reproduction piece that may have been issued to commemorate a certain occasion. Without Pictures, I am unable to help you make that determination.

- you got a reproduction there.

There is only one of them known. That is why Spider5689 described it as unique.

If you check e-bay you can find them there for a couple of dollars
