I'm getting used to your pics but not fully confident. I think I see lots of luster, it will come down to how clean the fields are in hand. The 72-S you sent me was interesting, by the standard they used that day, this is a 67.

Agree with frog, EZ 66 with a shot at 67.

BadThad, the 72-s coins you got in my opinion had very subdued luster if any. They seemed to lack any kind of pop. The 72-s I submitted was the same way. No zing to it. These 57's and the 1960 LD are like the 1967's I sent. I thought those had decent luster? Sure interested in your thoughts on this?

Totally agree, the 72-S is plain dull and almost no luster. It was graded primarily on eye appeal and lack of hits. I would have called it 65RD. That said, the 72-S issue is one of the more pathetic coins in the series. Even mint set coins are normally beat-up and spotted.

There are times that I believe the TPGs use "relative grading", i.e. adjusting the scale for mint issues that are notoriously bad and adjusting up for coins that are "better" than the average they see.

The coins from the 1960's are better than those of 1970's IMO. The dies were fresher and not as over-used as in the 70's when production was increased to the multi-billions level. It's impossible to use the exact same grading criteria for 60's versus 70's - the 70's are that bad.

Sorry about that pandalzi. you always have a very good eye. BadThad has patiently tried to help me master a camera (man it's hard for me for some reason. To take a picture you press and click. WRONG! Therefore I go back to the coin scope which never shows the exact color. I have learned about luster somewhat. Each of my pictures depicts a coin which I think has luster. I am learning to rotate with wrist under single light source. I am seeing the luster spin around the coin like a trolling motor blade that's on(lol).

Mainly I am interested in opinions on marks strike etc. I know location of affected areas matter a great deal. The camera and the scope are still very hard to make a judgement call. I just get excited when I think one is good. thanks as always

i believe most of the coins you post are most likely RD. I think its the shadows due to the glare that makes it more difficult to assess. also, the glare can hide minor marks which I'm seeing on this one at least on the temple area but because of the high resolution its not easy determining much they would affect grade. as you know once you get over 66 every little mark counts. I'm just dumbfounded as to how many how end coins you are pulling out

is it possible to adjust lighting or even try to pull back a little bit on the lens then crop it to make it larger. I'm just looking for ways to reduce that glare.

Hard to judge by the photos but I'd guess ms65 RD.

Edit:I feel like the hits one the pillars and Abe would hold this back from anything above 65
