Hi,

I did notice on the PCGS website that it shows the last few auction price realized for some coins. Is there a site that goes back farther than a couple years?

Regards

Many coins on PCGS' Coinfacts website have auction histories going back for several decades. What particular coin are you looking at? Heritage Auctions site also contains auction history.

Thanks for the response. I have been using the PCGS website and others for almost 4 years and there are two things I have learnt today that I didnt know. This forum is such a great resource.

I am looking at coins all the time but am wanting to dig deeper on historic pricing. I dont really have a specific one in mind.

Cheers

One thing you have to remember when you try to look at Historic price levels is that grades stated before 1986, especially in the MS grades, have to be taken with a grain of salt because there was no recognized standard grading.

If you are looking at a broad category of coins PCGS has a price index that goes back to 1970. Cliff notes version - early 1970's was a fantastic time to buy and anything after the 80's has been pretty flat to down. https://www.PCGS.com/prices/coin-in...peace-dollar

I was paying 30¢ a piece for pre-1967 Canadian dimes in the early 1970's if that helps...

On that PCGS price index, remember that the grades before 1986 are still of questionable comparison to those after 1986 which makes the prices questionable..
