There is another thread on this somewhere on the Main Forum I believe but the topic was not about this coin.I have decided to ask my questions here.
It might sound stupid, but as a newbie I cannot understand why the opinion is that these coins will be a value in the future.
As it is stated on the Canadian Mint site, these coins will be produced on demand.I am assuming that they will be available the whole year, and whoever wants them, will have enough time to buy them.
This is not a limited issue coin. The gold plated one ( wich is part of the set ) has the same characteristics, that is,produced to demand.
Could someone please enlighten me ?

Have a read of this thread in the Aussie Forum.

I am not aware of mintages etc, but bought this beautiful coin ( not the whole set) to partner my Australian VC dollar coin...

Well Abyss answering your question could be difficult as there will be many different opinions. The Victoria Cross silver dollar, especially the gold plated one, is a one year issue. Compared to numbers of coins struck by many nations (especially the U.S.) that number even after a year could be very small which will make it a keeper. Also you must keep in mind that no one knows what the demand for this coin will be next year, the year after or in 10 to 20 years as like it or not they will be long gone. There are also collectors who will target a specific item or topic so these coins are particularly important to them. How many VC coins have been made in the world prior to this date? How many countries will issue a VC commemorative this year? Could a collector build a set out of such coins? Many things play into a coins popularity and the fact Canada placed the gold plated VC into their 2006 proof set will limit sales as a great number of collectors DON'T want to pay the $84 (CND) dollars to get the one silver coin as that is a pretty heafty price for the one coin. So what are the coins in that set worth OUT of the set? The Canadian Mint is banking on collectors buying the proof set to get that one special coin, which is good for them, but many collectors will seek ONLY the coins which they desire which means they must locate a dealer or collector who will BUST the sets open and sell the coins individually. They get the coin cheaper than the selling price of $84 thus saving a few bucks and the fact that many proof sets get busted open also strengthens the secondary market for the proof sets as NO one knows how many sets remain intact in the years to come. Basically it can be a win win for both the collector and the Mint but time will tell the final tale! And, of course, by the time that rolls around we may not be willing to pay the asking price for either the proof set or the VC coin? It is best, at any given time, to buy the coin if your heart desires and worry about investment potential down the road. Some coins will rise and some will fall but if your heart is into collecting it really doesn't matter at all!

Thank You cristalk,
I'll start with the end of yur post,if I may.As I just posted on the Welcome forum ( shame on me,i should've done it long time ago),invetment value is secondary to me.I'm trying not to reiterate what I said there, just briefly: I've asked questions ( and maybe I will continue for a while)regarding investment, just because I try to understand the prices and this specific hobby.Secondary,I'm trying to educate myself ( through your knowledge here, but I do research on my own as well) how to stay away from just spending too much money on a particular issue/coin/series.Example: because let's say that I have some money now,and absolutely no experience,i would've said that the whole set might look like a good idea...apparently not so necessarily.
On another hand,i have no idea (yet)how these particular coins are released.Case in point, this one for example.I assume that is going to be just a one year deal, and when the year it's done..that's it.
As for the other things you said, regarding collectors and their interests and the way people collect coins, everything makes sense now...because you took the time to explain it.Thank You.
