Trolling for buys online, I spotted this 1859 cent with what looked like a repunched 5. When I looked closely I saw it was one of the best strikes I've ever seen - and in very fine plus condition. I bought it for under 20 dollars from a large selection of coins run by some corporation just interested in selling a lot of coins. It was obvious they were not into varieties. lucky me. Picture is on p. 298 of variety guide.

Nice find. I always like the nicely offset 5's. Your coin is not XF close but not there It also has corrosion and a nasty spot on the Obverse.

You might want to correct your title.

I was excited. I also had looked at a repunched 9, but this repunched 5 is the one I really like. The coin is, as you point out, about a VF+, not EF, but any nasty spots are simply dark spots, which don't bother me. For what I paid, I'll take dark spots. Thanks for the feedback.
