Does anyone know anything about the 1900-P Barber quarter Wingtip beyond 'E' in UNITED variety? I cannot find a value amount in CoinValues just the usual - DASH = INSUFFICENT PRICING DATA AVAILABLE. I have been informed that there are other minor differences in the reverse hub, the obvious wingtips is what got my attention. A better image has been submitted through CONECA (Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors of America) http://conecaonline.org/Thanks, John Image: S5000968.jpg97.02 KB Edited by oih82w8 02/10/2009 11:26 am

Welcome to Coin Community, oih82w8. As far as I know, the only alternate reverse for a Barber quarter was the initial Type 1 in 1892. This was the original reverse, where the wingtips did not completely cover the "E's." It was discovered that this design didn't stack properly, so the relief was lowered and certain design elements changed. The resulting Type 2 reverse, used for the second half of 1892 and all subsequent Barber quarters, is what you've pictured.

Can you take a better, straight-on pic showing both wings?

It does look like it might be a different hub. (I think the leaves on the olive branch may line up differently. I would agree with Biokemist we need to see straight on images of both whole coins.

Good point, will give it another go...kinda hard to get good detail when you are limited to less 100kb an image. I will work on my lighting too.

You got me looking and thinking about this. So, I went to Heritage and studied recent auction results, among other things. 8 out of the first 13 results for 1900-P Barber quarter sales were the same reverse as the one you've pictured. That got me digging a little deeper, and as a result I discovered that this was a new reverse die type issued in 1900.

I was afraid of that, it kinda got the heart pumping when I seen that no value data was available...so much for a rarity. At least it's a fairly decent type to keep for my collection. Thanks to all!
