I've been going through some sleeves of inherited Chinese coins. My uncle Joe wrote a lot of information on some of them and occasionally I've found errors in dates on the Canadian coins (I think his eye sight wasn't the sharpest). I can't seem to find the Y-### references on the NGC coin site for a few of the Chinese coins. Anyone up for confirming the grading and info on this coin? Any tips for searching on NGC's world coin site search?
"393.2" would be the Y#, but this coin is not 393.2. 393.2 has the English country-name, "CHINA", rather than the province-name "HO-NAN". Your coin is Y# 393.1, this one on Numista. The difference between Y#393 and Y#393.1 is in the Chinese-language side: 393 has six characters at the bottom, which translate to "worth standard money 20 cash", your coin 393.1 has five characters which translate to "worth 20 coppers of the dollar".
As for the grade of your coin, it's got that unfortunate combination of wear and poor strike, all too commonly seen in Chinese coins of this time period. I'd rate it as VG, though given the poor strike it might be a technical Fine.
