Rare-Metal-Detector-Find-I-Think?
Rare-Metal-Detector-Find-I-Think?

I found this over 6 inches deep and it's small. It's a baby christening pin. The item itself is not rare but to find one metal detecting is. I think!

I posted to see if other detectorists have found one? let me know if you indeed found one, just curious?

I've watched countless metal detecting video from many countries. Many religious pendants have been found but never have I seen any "Baby" specific ones found or mentioned.

I've been detecting for well over 25 years now and I have found many religious items in that time. Medals of all kinds, rings, pendants, crucifixes from rosaries and parts of them, and the list goes on. I had so many at one time I created a display and gave it to my mother as a gift years ago( I dont have a picture of it unfortunately)
Having said that, yours is the first christening medals I've seen, I wasnt even aware they existed so I suppose you could say they are not an everyday item. I would think it's a predominantly catholic thing so that narrows the playing field again...I would give your find an 'obscure' label, not necessarily scarce or even rare just presented to a small number of recipients.
Still a very interesting subject because it's those things that set the fire for research and learning and give us broader knowledge.
Good post GP.

You nailed it with the Catholic reference, I live in an area that is 80 to 90 percent catholic. I got slapped at the catholic elementary I attended so many times by the nuns. Those old women were some tough cookies. I became a alter boy just so I could eat the hosts when I had to clean up. LOL

I've heard that from my younger sister's best friend growing up. She went to Catholic school and was pretty feisty so she got introduced to the ruler many times. LOL
