Found this strange mark on the obverse. I assume it's PMD but thought I'd run it by to see what everyone thinks.

Is the mark/area in question raised above the surface of the coin like the letters in liberty or any of.the other letters or numbers normally found on this coin or is it below the surface like letters soneine used a took and punched this shape into the coin?

Looks like damage. Can't see how this would happen during the striking of the coin.
Something has hit it and displaced some of the metal.

The part that looks like a backwards s is raised up. The dark part may be indented. I am going to try getting an extreme closeup

It looks like something pushed the ridges up but the deterioration at the bottom is unusual.

Yes, must be PMD, thank you, looking at these couns is really interesting. Makes you wonder how the damage occurs.
Is there a way to get rid of the pop ups? I have one coming across my screen blocking the quick reply box so I can't see what I'm typing. Have I loaded something wrong?
