@coinhunter that's an amazing story about the Washington quarters! I can imagine how the seller felt! It's quite the insult, when he was aware of the value of his coins!
I know whenever it's time for me to sell, it will most likely be ebay, as I'm in the middle of nowhere. I was quite active for 3 years selling and buying on ebay from 2012. So I'd need to brush up on policy changes and all of the rest involved! Plus reactivate my account and rebuild a good reputation again. I had a store with 300 plus listing, until I need a hip replacement and was in hospital 4 months, as I dislocated it 3 times in 11 weeks.
So now as I await back surgery, I'm back into the hobby, only this time concentrating more on the bullion and hedge aspects! It will be a very rare proof that will catch my attention! I've also learned to be patient and most proofs will be deeply discounted in a few years. Having been out of the hobby since 2017, a lot seems to have changed. Especially on bullion premiums! I've been reading posts here , silver stackers and the kitco silver forums going back to 2012, the last time silver spot was in this range. Only back then rounds were $3-$4.50 over spot and sometimes maples and Philharmonics were too. From back then the wisdom seemed to buy government issued coins for quicker sale with a higher return. As they were more trusted than the majority of rounds. This year since I have started stacking, I'm only using trusted Canadian dealers, I have bought from when collecting from 2012-2016. As the prevalence of counterfeits, is what scared me from further collecting! I instead switched to different hobbies. I did still keep collecting interesting face value circulation coins. So I have a variety of different types of coins in different areas of my home, including several pounds of pre 1990's copper cents, which I do miss, since Canada stopped minting them in 2012.
So I'm really enjoying the wisdom people are sharing and it's helping me get up to speed. I also watch ebay sold sections to get an idea of trends. So again thanks for all of the help and kind words everyone! Coins is an excellent hobby for when your mobility is limited. I also use it as an incentive to cut junk food out of my diet. The $ saved goes towards coins !
