Looks like Sam Houston has an issue with his nose.

Based on the photos provided, I cannot see an issue. Nice looking Texas half however.

Based on the zoomed-in image...

The dark line could be the result of a die crack. Any chance of getting an image or two with more/better lighting?

Few more photos - my camera scopes have a hard time when the coin has this much shine.

Thanks for the additional images!

From this clearer view, my eyes tend toward a planchet defect vs. a die break. I would expect a raised line on the coin's surface if it was created from a die that was cracked/broken, but I see the opposite here.

If raised I would say a die crack nearing die break. Maybe fiddle with the light direction to improve the contrast.

Looks to me like a die crack with a die break at the nose. Interesting find!

@zurie - I agree- after looking with my loupe, the area in question are raised. Die crack and die break going on here. I haven't gotten into many commemoratives. Any one know if these issues were common on this series?
