I know that this quarter has err with hat involving a Cud err, but I have found 3 examples of damage to the hat area(all 3 examples the same)...I'm just wondering if this was the beginning, so to speak, of when the damage started. As my examples show a small gouge on the rear portion of his hat and a scraping look across the length of the hat. All three examples are the same.

Can you post pictures of all 3 quarters? Just like above (zoomed in on the hat) All 3 in the same image side by side if possible for comparison.
I ask this is because by just going on this one image of one coin, it looks like damage to me.

Can't tell anything from that pic. But I can tell you if it's on the hat, it's not a Cud.

Thx all for the replies. I will try to put all 3 pics for you. I was thinking damage as well, but all 3 look the same...so, that seems like very hard to replicate such similar damage...idk. Just thought would post. I am new to all this and appreciate any and all help...

I think he means die chip that are common in that location and eventually got big as opposed to Cud. I can't tell if that is early stage of the die chip or PMD. It almost looks like a gouge in the coin with displaced material piled up, but I'm not sure from the picture.

Just damage on the hat area. Note the sliding lines on the hat. Just coin damage. No die chip. (Either way no premium for damage to a coin or a die event like a chip.

I think the premiums depend on the market. Several of this quarter with late progression of the die chip have sold on ebay this week for prices varying between $40 and $70 and have been for a while. Granted, they are listed as uncirculated, and I would guess they are probably actually "almost uncirculated"

Thx again for replies. Just was curious as I had found 3 of these during roll hunting, and all 3 are same. I might hang on to them for while in case some more pop up. Take care all.
