I have a lot of silver coins that are of low grade but still "valuable" for their silver content. problem is I am mathematically challenged to put it nicely and I just can't figure out how all of you come to a total for value in terms of silver. (i do have a scale if this will help me at all)

Also, is anyone actually selling at exact spot price or does everyone still sell at a bit higher because spot prices are eventually going to go back up?

thanks

malissa

hi onejinx thanks for sending that link. just another question or two for ya

it shows all american spot prices and then it shows the little box that explains value for canadian coin.....is the price there by canadian coins in us or canadian currency?

and... where it says in the canadian box there, per dollar face value $6.60 does that mean I can just add up any of my canadian silver even say $1.00 in dimes and that equals $6.60 in silver? (and again us or canadian)

sorry if that sounded befuddled but I am feeling exactly that. lol

thanks for your help

oh also, still wondering if anyone is actually selling at spot or if everyone is still selling at a bit higher or more because the value of silver is bound to rise?

thanks again
malissa

Sounds like you may already have this link:

http://www.Deleted004.com/coin_calculators.html

For U.S junk silver (90%) most dealers use a multiplier. Take the face value X .715 X spot price.

With silver prices up this month, I wouldn't expect much of a premium over melt but it won't hurt to ask.

They keep deleting my links: one more try circumventing the bad word filter is a no no ! Metalman

oops bherring1964 that link isn't working. I hate to sound like an idiot but like I said I am mathematically challenged. can you give me an actual equation with that? lol

like fv= $5.00 x .715 x $10.00= $35.00 is that right?

boy I hate admitting when I dont know what I am doing.

Yes - your math is correct! At $10/oz spot, $5.00 face of 90% silver is worth $35.00 minimum.

Some people will pay more but most dealers use this multiplier.

Remember that spot silver is close to $13 an ounce now and as the price rises, the premium people pay over spot will likely diminish.

P.S. It's actually $35.75.

try Deleted004.com. It has a melt calculator.

[edit: I guess my link is also a no-no. sorry. The Red Book has the silver content of coins. I know for most American 90% coins, the calculation is usually between 9-10 times the face value. I went onto that banned site. It's calcuations are currently in this range. Halves a bit over 10; dollars, just under 10; dimes and quarters closer to 9 - but 40% halves are times 3.75 and 40% IKEs are 4 times]

Haven't you seen those commercials on TV for sending in your old Gold, Silver, Platinum? Why you could call them and they would send you an envelope and you fill it with all those coins and send to them. Naturally you would be given a really great price for those.
Or read the post about sending in Gold recently posted here.
