I found this very strange that The Sun can't seem to distinguish a Morgan dollar from a Barber half dollar; sure, they carry the same set of three mintmarks but I thought they would be smart enough to see these are two different coins. The article states this coin sold for $1,501.00, and goes on to explain (albeit correctly) that the Barber coinage started in 1892. They did a little better on wondering if one of us readers have one of these coins in our collection instead of saying "do you have one of these in your spare change?" implying we folk carry around antique coins...

It is kinda hard to post a link to this Sun article from a phone.

Some think Morgan dollars fit under the Barber category, because of their somewhat similar obverse appearances. But they were designed and engraved by two different artists, so they should be kept separate. I don't like how they showed the coin's doctored ebay photos.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Since it's clearly a dollar, they're very confused with all the half dollar references in the article. Something I learned just recently (BCCS journal article) is that the old coin boards referred to Barber dimes, quarters and halves as "Morgan Type" or just "Morgan" throughout the 1930s and 1940s.

Yes, kbbpll, I have a 1940 Barber dime blue Whitman folder with a cover reading "Barber, Liberty Head or 'Morgan' Dime."

Interesting. The ones in the BCCS article (by David Lange) just said "Morgan Dime - Liberty Head" with no mention of Barber. Got a picture?

The Sun is a just a site that allows backlinks to other sites for a fee. They are part of the Black Hat SEO that websites do. Their content is not meant to be actually read by a person, just a search engine.
