I'm a child of the 50's and 60's. My dad, and I think most dads have what I call "standard issue" 50's toys. i.e. 8mm camera and projector, Lionel or American Flyer train set, barbecue set for the back yard with croquet set and badminton. And, a coin collection. My dad had the Penny, Nickel, Dime and Half folders with a few proof sets and a couple of dollar rolls. I got the bug from him. I lost track of his collection. I suppose it went to another kid, but I'm spending time now back filling the coins of his that were truly memorable to me. He had a 1909 vdb cent (which I just obtained), but he never had a 1909 s vbd. I don't know if I want one or not. On one hand I'd like to get one to say "hey dad, we finally got one" or say "no, he didn't get one, so I'm not getting one". Don't know which would honor him more. I do know that another of his dreams was to own a ShopSmith Mark V. I got one a few years ago and found it not to be fun at all! So, maybe I'll say no to the S VDB.

26-30...A fellow employee offered to sell me a partial set of Jeffersons. About 20 coins, including the 50D...That was around 1966 and I think I paid him $11.00 for all the nickles. I have been more serious about it the past couple of years. I now have a set of Jeffersons. Mostly BU, with proofs. All the Buffalos except the 13-s type 2. Libertys from 1883 except 1885, 1886 and the pesky 12-s. I will eventually get the 4 I'm missing.

I have been all the way around the world and have some nice pieces, but I still enjoy collecting my US coins...i enjoy our history---but mostly I enjoy Jefferson.

I started at 11. We took family vacation to Canada for Expo 67. I remember getting a silver dollar, and being just infatuated with the Indians in the canoe.

I was 10 I think when I was given some old coins by mother. (Who acquired them from my Dad when they divorced). I remember my dad telling me that I was always fascinated by Buffalo nickels. He would give me his change to drop into the slot machine when he got home. So I guess I must have caught the bug when I was about 4 or 5.

I checked 36-40 for my start. That is when I was able to collect and invest in numismatic collectible coins. A lot of fun with a lttle security at the same time. I am now 50.

I think I started around age 6 or 7 with a Whitman folder for Canadian cents that would be around 1961. We had a restaurant and bar so lots of coin to sort threw.
Worst memory was that of my Mother saving half dollars in a milk can and when it was nearly full rolling it up and cashing at the bank for face, all of it was silver,I YI YI,YI YI this was about 1966.

When I was eight = pickle jar full of Ikes

Now that I'm all grown up, I'd like to have a pickle jar full of 40% Silver Ikes...
