I just finished going through $175.00 of the new Native American rev Sac's, as received direct ship from the Denver mint ( I live in Maine )and the quality is the poorest that you can imagine. Out of the 175 that I looked at, I found 6 that might grade MS-66, and that is a strech. More than likely they will go as MS-65's. They are full of scratches and cuts, and abrasions. To say that I am disapointed whould be a vast understatement. Has anyone else gone thru any boxes? dean

Bag marks are sadly S.O.P. (standard operating procedure) when it comes to that.
"Rough handling" of business strike coins and the way they're "dumped" around in piles before they're "rolled" or "bagged" and then sent out......ugh !....

Remember that these edge lettered golden dollars have to be handled twice- once for the striking of the coin and again to apply the edge lettering- it is not a one step process(except for proofs). That has been limiting the high end grades so they usually average around 62-64.

I thought I read somewhere that the average uncirculated coin is around MS-62 and 63, and all other Unc. coins that grade higher than that are considered a rarity. I thought that you usually get high grade Uncs. from mint sets and not neccessarily bags and rolls?

That was not always the case but it certainly is now. The Mint Set coins actually do get special handling(in addition to a satin/matte finish) so they tend to grade much higher than your average business strike.

I ordered a box on the 27th and it says on hold. I guess thats not such a huge amount of time passed, though I think I'm just spoiled from buying stuff here on the forums. Everybody I've bought from here are fast shippers.

I thought that the avg uncirculated coin was a MS-60. Is there a concensus on this?

I remember back in the days when the MS grading system was being developedat the ANA, there were only two MS grades 60 and 65 and the ratio the developers stated for 60's and 65 was said one 65 for every 1000 coins that graded 60. Under those standards you shouldn't have ANY 65's, Of course grading changed.

Mine switched to order request in process three days ago still says that. The money has been on hold in my bank account till today but now looks like it was put back into my account?

When I called the mint they said looks like yours is being processed but looks like to me they canceled it? Guess time will tell?

Brucec,

Don't worry, same thing happened to me. The sale was pending on my credit card for a while, then disapeared, so I thought they had canceled the order too. But now that my order status is being shipped it was charged to my card again.

I would guess that it takes about two weeks from the time you placed the order to the time that they ship the coins because thats how long it took the mint to process me.

They should send you an e-mail when your coins get sent.
