Other than the bank, are there any places that give out dollar coins as change? A friend of mine told me he uses the train a lot and that's all they give when you insert money and get a card, the change is always in dollar coins. Pretty cool I think. I wonder, is there any other places that do this?

Stamp machines at the post office are supposed to give them out in change, but I don't have one at my post office so in all fairness I've never seen one of these machines before.

Stamp and subway ticket machines are the reason why the Susan B. Anthony was minted again in 1999. They were running out of dollar coins to give back in change. (I may be wrong on this so corrections welcomed.)

Try your local car wash.

Several here, (Louisville), have drive through washes that take your bills and give mini dollars as change.

I've gotten them from the two sources just listed and also at the mass-transit ticket machines. Check anyplace coin-operated that might return dollar denominations.

Thanks for posting. Never thought of car washes... that's a good idea to look at next time we are there. I might check the post office too. Not sure if they have machines here either but worth a check next time there.

Never saw a stamp machine anywhere except in one large post office and from what someone told me they had to stop giving out the baby sized dollars due to many complaints. Most people just don't want them. Our commuter train conductors will give you a dirty look if you try paying with those. They have money changers and there are NO SLOTS for oddball sized coins. Most stores don't like them either since no cash register has a place for them either.
Currecy Exchanges, Banks, credit unions do have them.
