Hello all,

I am located in the US. I bought a coin from Tauler and Fau recently and the export process was quite easy (since they handled it, lol). I was thinking of bidding on other coins from Aureo & Calico and potentially other firms and noticed they don't seem to handle the export license aspect. Do you have to apply for the license yourself and provide it to them? Wanted to confirm because applying for the license seems like quite the process, requiring obtaining a digital ID with the Spanish government, etc.

Thank you for any input!

It's been a few years for me... Aureo used to totally disregard it - sent your wins right out. Cayon used to abide by it. You get charged the 5% fee for the Juan Carlos Defense Fund AND it often took 2-3 months to get your pieces... but they handled the paperwork and sent you a printout of the export license

I don't recall anything about actually registering yourself with the gov't...

I think you should send them an email and ask, so that you know what you are getting into.

For Italy (which has a similar process), none of the auction houses expect the buyer to do this. They all handle it, and the shipment is delayed 3 to 6 months.
Some smaller auction houses just exclude bidding from foreign bidders on certain coins to avoid the extra work.
