Now what is going on with your nickel is something called a lamination peel where debris gets between the rollers and the stock metal sheet and the impurities present can cause metal to "lift" off the rolled metal flaking it away. It looks kinda odd as this passes through the wreath and then over the bottom of the V, but there is corresponding flattening on the obv.
