First off, from all of us, glad you can ask us!

Now what is going on with your nickel is something called a lamination peel where debris gets between the rollers and the stock metal sheet and the impurities present can cause metal to "lift" off the rolled metal flaking it away. Neat piece, although it is fairly worn looking.

Yeah it is quite worn, the obverse has PMD a thin ring around the coin maybe from a roller? I havent had any luck with finding coins worth anything.

@dia, that might be a lam on the rev, but I'm not completely convinced that it isn't just damage. It looks kinda odd as this passes through the wreath and then over the bottom of the V, but there is corresponding flattening on the obv.
