I'm looking for information on what is apparently a series of US Great Seal tokens. A couple of examples are shown. There was a significant change in a number of details in the Great Seal when a new master for the die was engraved in 1841. Hence the two versions on the tokens. The reverses are the same on both.

I have found a lot of information on the Great Seal itself, but none on the token. I'm wondering if anybody knows when there were made and what company made them and why. They were made in a variety of metals. Besides the two shown that have different tones, I have one that looks more like antique bronze and another silver colored that is stamped "Sterling" on the rim. I assume it is silver.

I'd like to find out what varieties were made. There was another master die made in 1903 that corrected a number of the mistakes. Is there a third version in this series?
