I'm looking at the commemorative Lincoln Bronze smaller bronze that is on the US Mint now (I love the look of them). Are these decent collectors items?

I'm new to coins and am looking for a nice, affordable piece. The 3"seems a bit big but the other once for around $4.00 looks nice.

Hello,
I'm JB and this is my first answer to anyone's post. I've been lurking for a while, (that sounded creepier then it was suppose to!), but this is a question a might be able to offer an personal opinion on.

I just received a order I placed with the U.S. Mint and I think it was called "The White House Medal Set", for $35.00. It includes a bronze coin from Kennedy - Bush, G.W...( no mint marks). On the obverse, there are some full face, some 3/4 and the rest are portraits...a nice 10 coin mix.

The reverse of these coins is even more varied...some have the Presidential Seal, others have a picture of the White House, and still others have the oaths that every President takes on his Inauguration day. Again, in my opinion, a nice mixed lot...The coins, not the subjects of the coins!!

They are about the size of a Ike dollar with the weight of a silver American Eagle. I know the coin you are talking about, the 3" Lincoln...it just seemed a little "large" to me and the last the I'd want to do is use it as a paperweight! The bronze coins have a completely different look from the up and coming Presidential coins, currently being issued. Are they collectibles?
Sure, if someone is willing to take care of them and perhaps try to find a air-tite, (I apologize if that's the actual name of the product, I'm not advertising here), say in the same size that would fit an Ike dollar. Then Yes, they are collectible...As soon as the mint runs out of them, well they may be more then "collectible"...they maybe "sell-able".

You say that you're just starting out as a numismatic...well one of the great things I love about coin collecting is that you never really know where it's going to take you...I mean there are coins out there that I'm we'd all love to own...Hell, there's a few out there I'd just like to be able to see in person!!but weather it's a money issue, a search issue, or just an inability to decide what coins you want to collect, trust me...When you look back in one year at whatever you've collected...I'll bet you 1909 VDB cent that it wasn't what you thought it would be!!

Anyway, I hope I was of some help...
Take care,
JB

Thanks for the reply, JB.

I'd love to see a Hobo Nickel in person. I may actually check out some of those Presidential sets. Do you buy proof or uncirculated?

Hello again,
I like Proofs...Silver proof sets, Commemorative coins, American Eagles...Otherwise, I buy based on what I like / or need to an on going collection. Only once did I buy something based on a customer's needs or wants...got burned. ITT really didn't take a "loss", the coin ended up fitting into my little Coin World just fine!

Take care
Respectfully,
JB
