Hi,

I few weeks ago, I posted pictures of 1951 25 cents with DDR. I did some researches I found that Hans Zoell have found something similar too. In the Major coin varieties book (4th edition, 1966), Zoell noted on page 42 for a 1951 quarter:

R371n : Re-cut 25 in 25 cents.

Did Zoell used the Double die term? For the 1955 quarter which is also known for the DDR , he used re-entered date. I don't know to much about Zoell but for him, what is the difference between a re-cut and a re-entered?

Thanks !

Well, almost everything that Zoell put in the "Major" varieties are actually varieties rather than "errors" that he put in the "Minor" variety catalogues. In the very front of each of Zoells books/pamphlets, he wrote what he meant by describing his terms. Before his 3rd edition, be included both major and minor anomalies.. I think that even his "latest" book was mid 1970's

Hans Zoell erroneously used the word "recut" for almost everything that was doubled. Doubled dies, Machine Doubling, and Die Deterioration Doubling... all "recut" in his books.
