Imagine you're disembarking the boat on the shores of Normandy and German gunfire is raining down on your unit. Suddenly, you're knocked off your feet and you wonder if you've been hit. But then you remember you've been carrying a 1943 Steel Cent in your uniform pocket and you realize that the bullet ricocheted off the coin and dropped harmlessly onto the sandy beach...

Anyway, that's probably what happened to the coin offered in the ebay auction titled "Lucky WWII 1943 Steel Penny Dented by Bullet - Estate Find."

Yes , there's no other possible explanation for this bent 43 penny . Has to be it was struck by an enemy bullet , mortar, hand Granade, or 50 cal. machine gun shell . Hmm, I wonder if the guy survived after all ?

That is critical information for determining the value of this coin.

Could be like the short story The Monkey's Paw by W. W. Jacobs.

Get out your .22 mag and some of your steel cents, and you'll get similar results.

It's just PMD

The seller admits it is of "unknown origin."

In the item description: "Whirlruss Bargains has this estate find WWII 1943 steel penny dented by bullet - Possibly saved a life? - Interesting with unknown origin."

Needs some verifiable corroborative evidence that this coin has sustained the damage it has, by the method that the seller alleges.
Would not fit nicely into a 2x2

I would grade it in somewhat less than in uncirculated condition.
