A few of my friends are putting together a bulk submission for ICCS. One of the coins that a friend wants to submit has 1 spot of corrosion. Due to the value (Likely Extra fine range) it's not actually worth the cost of grading but it got me thinking. I have ICCS graded coins with small corrosion spots but no corrosion delegation. would this earn it? Is there a standard?

It would never get an XF grade and they may note "environmental damage. Other TPG's may just say "genuine". Wasn't the original coin that started the thread a different date? Was a new coin put in the photo?

There is a numerical grading system based on condition, but there is no numerical system for any other aspect, and thus all other problems must necessarily have an adjectival comments system, for which there is no recognized standard.

For this reason value can never rest on grading alone, but must take into account all other problems (if any), and are subjective in the minds of the buyer and seller and value has to be agreed on before a sale can be made.

Nevertheless, coin catalogs which give a value according to grade are still a very useful guide for coin values

Is this a high value coin? Maybe some verdi-care will clean that up, but otherwise I would just leave that one as is. ICCS might put a corrosion/enviro/etc... note or net grade it down. Either way, this will only get worse over time and not sure if any George IV with that level of damage is worth the cost of grading.

Corrosion can appear after grading.

It's not my coin - my friends coin. And it is NOT being sent to ICCS. See it got me thinking at what threshold is it not worth sending it in as many of my bank tokens have similar corrosion but no comments

If you can't actually SELL a coin for $100, then it's not worth the cost to get it graded and shipped.
