Having been collecting coins for a few years, I am always curious about how to shoot a nice and clear photo for each of them~ After searching around, I found that Heritage did a really good job on their auction coins photography~ Heritage usually has two different styles of photos for each coin. One set shows the detail and the other shows the actual eye appearance of the coin. I really like the first set of pictures, especially for the nice toning coins~ Since then, I've tried to learn how to take pics in "Heritage style". Here are my equipments: Canon PowershotG9 Conversion Lens Adapter LA-DC58H 1x Hoya 58mm Macro 2x Hoya 58mm Macro Manfrotto 482 desktop tripod two 5000k true daylight 26watts bulbs two lamp stands two lamb cover diffusers The beginning is always the hardest. After many attempts, I did learn something and I can see a little improvement from the photos. These are some of my recent pictures ![Can-Point-&-Shoot-Cam-Get-Heritage-Style-Pic-[feb-13-Update]](http://farm1.static.flickr.com/189/3263236759_bf58d9b6bf_o.jpg) ![Can-Point-&-Shoot-Cam-Get-Heritage-Style-Pic-[feb-13-Update]](http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3464/3264062546_b8c161237e_o.jpg) ![Can-Point-&-Shoot-Cam-Get-Heritage-Style-Pic-[feb-13-Update]](http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3470/3264062764_6a8e40b34c_o.jpg) Edited by mAnD 02/13/2009 11:04 pm

Can you contact Heritage and find out what equipment they use? My nephew uses a Dino-Lite and gets very good results,it is a bit pricey though but if you can afford it it's well worth it. John1 P.S.Your photos look fine to me,how is your macro shots like maybe 20x or 30x power?

Hello John1 I also use the canon built-in macro function while 1x and 2x lens attached to avoid lens distortion. I also wonder what's Heritage use, maybe Mark III? I think I may get an answer from Heritage or they may told me that's a business secret. I've checked the price for the Dino-Lite, it is quite expensive, so I think I would just stick to what I have~

For am amateur you did a great job. Hope to be able to do the same in the near future when I get my new camera. Gotta close a deal on a piece of real estate first though.

Nice images! I think a P&S camera will do the job.. Your images are a lot nicer than Heritage but I think I will stick to learning the "SuperDave style"

Tremendous work. The color is amazing. It does nothing but increase my already-overblown opinion of Canon products.

Hello 50cents I like the "SuperDave Style" too, especially the evenly distributed light on the coin surface that is still a hard topic for me

mAnD - Why the Hoya filters? I mean, the G9 can get very nice macros without the filters--can you post with and without the filters so we can see distortion impact? Have you tried 250D or 500D filters from Canon? I just bought a G10 (not just for coin photos... ) so I am curious to see impact on yours...

Hi phdezra Yes the G9 could get nice macro by only using the built-in macro function, but I wanna get a more detailed picture. or say I am just doing most people used to do and it seems a macro filter is necessary. I used to attach a 10x or 20x macro to my Canon A series, the macro effect is very obvious so I am using a 1x or 2x macro along with the built-in macro function. I will attach a macro effect pic if I can find any. I usually delete pic that's not good as I expect. Sooner I will post some of my other equipments and you will find out how funny they are~ ![Can-Point-&-Shoot-Cam-Get-Heritage-Style-Pic-[feb-13-Update]](https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/images/icon_smile_big.gif)

Feb-13 Post Updated...I have an Italian 2L. Love the reverse design and the nice toning~ My main concern when shooting this coin is how can camera catch most details of this coin. After a few attempts, I finally found a better equipment to take picture for this. Here is my "secret weapon"~~Guess what it is? ![Can-Point-&-Shoot-Cam-Get-Heritage-Style-Pic-[feb-13-Update]](http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3358/3277204591_dc5d1fe19a_o.jpg) Yes! It is a laundry bag~ The small holes on the laundry bag can diffuse the light irregularly and create more contrast. So I use this laundry bag and the lamb cover diffusers together. I think I get a better picture. ![Can-Point-&-Shoot-Cam-Get-Heritage-Style-Pic-[feb-13-Update]](http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3492/3277204653_31c6907771_o.jpg)
