Ever had a question that you can't forget about? Well one hit me about the 1970-S Small date die. It was only seen on the 1970-S dies in the small dates.
So my inquiring mind wanted to know why would they make a die just for one year, for one mint? So a few hours ago and figured out what the answer was. Loading up images for several years I discovered, that the die was first used on the 1969 cents.

The use of it stopped on the 1974 small date cents With the blunt end '(9)' appearing again. So the blunt end 9 was seen after that till 1982. So answer surprised me. How you example closely coins, but never realize what was going on. Hope you enjoy this as much as me.
