Hi,

Hoping one of the members of the community has some knowledge on Japanese Meiji era coinage. I'm having a hard time figuring out if the scratches on this 20 Sen indicate cleaning? And I think this is a deep scales variant? Is this something worth grading or just keeping in a 2x2? Thank you!

Gorgeous coin either way. Awesome retoning if cleaned long ago.
Are those hairlines visible to the naked eye w/o magnification?

Thank you! No, the scratches aren't visible to the naked eye; that's why I wasn't sure if the scratches were considered just scratches or evidence of cleaning.

Got it. I read that if the hairlines are incuse they probably are from cleaning or damage and if they stand out they might be die polish hairlines.

Thanks again! I think it's probably an old cleaning based on what you mentioned. Bummer, I was thinking about it getting graded but probably not worth the cost and time. Appreciate your feedback!
