On the first time the Feeder fingers get hit by the die, then both are damaged, any subsequent strike on future planchets the mark left on the damaged die will be struck when the new coin is made.
The feeder fingers struck struck the the designs on them from the dies: Bit I feel there was not planchet in the chamber that may have assisted the damage. Why do I think that? Note that the coin was formed from the fingers. So in this case there was not planchet present when this happened. So this maybe the case on why the feeder fingers get struck, even showing the design on both sides of the fingers. The distortion of the struck fingers make the fingers distort, so when they move they damage the die. The damaged die show the damage on the coins struck with that die.
