paleoguy45 Pillar of the Community United States 2936 Posts	Posted 06/09/2022 10:32 am Not being one who can wait for anything, I need an answer to the following: I submitted a bronze coin obtained in a bulk 20lb win from Heritage Auctions that represented the Bar Kokhbar Revolt back in 132 A.D. I was not sure of it being genuine but it is worth the effort (and money) to find out. The coin is on its way back now and has a valid NGC certification number assigned. There is no grade associated with it but I know Ancients do not receive a numerical grade of 1-70. My question is does NGC arbitrarily assign a cert number on all coins received regardless of encapsulation or not? * Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. * Report this Post to the Staff

SaturnD51 Valued Member United States 425 Posts	Posted 06/11/2022 10:30 am The certification number given to each coin is composed of 2 simple numbers. The first (typically 6 or 7 digits) represents the invoice number the coin was submitted under. The next number (always 3 digits) represents the line number on the invoice that the coin was submitted on. So while every single NGC certified coin will have a unique certification number, that number does not provide any type of description information or population information in and of its self. If at any time you would like to verify the certification number on a coin, you may call Customer Service at 1(800) 642-2646. Based on that certification number, we can reference your particular coin, and verify the date, mint mark, variety (if applicable) and grade.
