I went to my first coin show today and was actually overwhelmed. Too much to look at and because I didn't have any idea as to what I really wanted, I wound up buying "stuff". I got a small handful of 20's and 30's Canadian nickels and a few foreign coins. Then I realized an old friend was one of the dealers and I ended up purchasing a sealed "3 Cent Commemorative" set from him at a really good price. He also sold me a pile of Saddam bills really cheap (really, really cheap!). Next trip I'll be ready. I'll make a shopping list of things I want.

This is a pic of the set I bought: I preferred to keep mine sealed.

Larger coin shows (or even smaller ones) can be overwhelming. One has a budget (usually) to stick to and so many choices! I used to really feel this at any of the CNA (now RCNA) conventions .

It wasn't so much the budget. It was the immense variety and quantity that overwhelmed me. My interests range from errors to Canadian and U.S. Cents to paper money to tokens to foreign. I also like gold and silver. That's where my problem actually lies. I should have been looking for the items that I wouldn't find searching coin rolls or bills in circulation. When I go to the next show, I'll concentrate on gold and silver and old paper bills.

Oh jeez, was that you? I was the guy sitting down beside you at the table in the green Hydro parka, looking through the nickels and the foreign currency box. Yes, those 3 Cent sets were a steal at $16, and I don't think you made out too bad with the Saddam stuff.

And yes, the story he told about importing the Saddam stuff was very entertaining.

Look for you next month?

I'll be there. Dave and I knew each other about ten years ago when I was a volunteer archaeologist. It was good to see he was still in Winnipeg. I'll probably be there first thing in the morning. Make sure you introduce yourself if you see me there. I'd like to meet you.

Btw, I've only got three of the twelve sets of the Saddam bills left
