Here are five different silver quarters with very similar die cracks.
In yearly order, 1953, 1953D, 1960, 1960 D, 1964 D.
Check them out and tell me what you think.

@gar, I think you are finding out that the top point of the eagle's wing constitutes an area of high stress for this design. Die cracks tend to form at similar places (e.g. the corners of the Lincoln Memorial on cents). Here is a more mundane example:

Spencer is correct on this. That is the exact reason that commercial jet aircraft have oval windows. I the beginning, British airways jets had square windows and were "dropping out of the sky". After a study, inspactors found that the corners of hte windows were tearing open and allowing the jet to fall apart. Now with oval windows - there is no stress and thus no cracks.
