Red-Toned-1989-Penny

Newbie here.

I just discovered this 1989 red penny and find it to be very beautiful. Any idea what made it turn so red and eye catching?

Thank you in advance!

Toning/staining caused by exposure to environmental elements. Looks like some crud may be involved too. Suggest soaking it for a while in 100% acetone--may clear out the crud-like stuff. Maybe.

That red almost looks artificial the way it is only near the edges of the devices and not in the fields.
