Can someone explain to me what happened here? Post-mint damage or did it miss a step in the minting process? The coin has seen better days.

It's called a pretty uniform lip, all the way around on both sides.

Post mint damage. Spooned or a Dryer Coin. I don't think a coin can miss it's edge reeding, besides dollars missing edge lettering.

Is "spooned"exactly what it sounds like? Like someone filed it down the edge...

@cam, yes for sure that is damage. The reeds are formed with the same manufacturing step that produces the rim, so you can't have a legit error with only one of these.

As to the term "spooning", this is a method of turning coins into jewelry. For reference, here is a link to a previous thread where some of this is explained and described:

Ps- not a good idea to hold your coins like that in your fingers. Use cotton gloves.
