ebay Canada announced taxes automatically being charged on Canadian purchases beginning July 1st. There was a nice JM gold bar that went up for less than what I can get it for at my LCS. I made an offer and it was accepted for even less. Now ebay wants me to pay $313 in 13% taxes. The seller is refusing to contact ebay and won't cancel my order so I'm either forced to pay it or receive an unpaid strike. It's listed as .999 and under the bullion category. I went and looked at at least 10 other .9999 and .999 gold coins and every single one is charging me 13% taxes as well. What can I do here! Why does ebay charge taxes that submits to the government when the government doesn't actually charge taxes on .999

Take the unpaid strike and move on . I am a GST registrant and this is just a giant cluster mess ! I am just about ready to NOT SHIP to Canada and just sell To the US which is over 80 per cent of our online sales any ways . We have already dumped Germany due to an insane new packaging Law and France as well .

Zero taxes to pay on gold bullion sales in Australia. That makes administration on tax payments much easier. And fewer public servants. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Until mixamatosis was spread throughout the feral rabbit population, Oz had a major rabbit problem. Unfortunately, they have not found an equivalent population control measure for public servants.

Check with the CRA, you may be able to get a refund of tax paid in error.

Although I haven't had to do this yet, I've been told by an ebay customer service representative that this can/will be done.

I've tried calling a few times. I don't think they have customer service agents anymore that you can call and the online chat ones are reading off a script so much that I'm not clear if it is a person or AI. Such a shame. Used to be such a fun place to shop and buy.

So, my state, Virginia, changed their sales tax policy on coins and bullion sales on 1 July to exempt those sales from sales tax. Then on 26 July I won an ebay auction for a coin and ... was charged sales tax It took chatting with ebay customer service twice, but finally today, 8 Sep, I was reimbursed for the improperly charged sales tax. It took 6 weeks but in the end ebay corrected their error ebay has since updated their website to correctly not charge sales tax for coin and bullion purchases for my state
