My main thematic stamp collection is primates on stamps which includes hundreds of stamps and philatelic items. As a side collection, I collect also primates on banknotes. It is a small collection includes less than 30 banknotes, most of the banknotes I know that show primates.

Primates can divided to three groups:
Prosimian (Pre-monkeys) - a group includes all small primates like Lemurs, Lorises and Tarsius.
Monkeys - Old and New world monkeys like Baboons, Macaques and Gibbons.
Apes - includes Chimpanzees, Gorillas and Orangutans

I have banknotes with primates from the three groups. Please feel free to post your banknotes with monkeys and other primates.

Let's start with the Prosimians.

Prosimians (Pre-monkeys) is a group of small primates includes Lemurs, Lorises and Tarsius. They lives in Africa and South East Asia and are the only primates native to Madagascar, which issued several banknotes show them. Here is one of them which is my favorite:

Madagascar, 1000 Francs issued in 1974 shows Ring-Tailed Lemur (Lemur catta). The back side shows Baobab Tree:

Interesting! From another topic I am planning to catalog my paper money "zoo". I'm sure there will be a primate or two (you know, besides the human ones ).

CelticKnot, will be glad to see your primates if you have If the banknote I post shows other animals than primates, I will write their names.

Here is another one from Madagascar of 1000 Ariary / 5000 Francs, issued in 1995 shows different prosimians (Left to right): Ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur catta), Red Ruffed Lemur (Varecia rubra), Verreaux's Sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi):

-We saw several capuchins on our visit to Costa Rica (many of which were stealing purses & whatnot from sleepy/unsuspecting tourists).

Here's a 200 Pesos from the Philippines which features the tarsier on the back. The 200 pesos is about as common as the $2 note in the US (just never see them).

Thank you, NumisRob and walk2dwater, for sharing the great banknotes of Costa Rica and the Philippines. As far as I know, in both cases, these are the only banknotes in the world show Capuchin and Tarsius, respectively.

IndianGoldEagle, thank for sharing the colorful Zanzibar banknote. Is it an official banknote?

Madagascar, banknote of 1000 Ariary / 5000 Francs issued in 2004 shows two prosimians. Left: Vari (Varecia variegata), Right: Aye-Aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) and a tortoise (geochelone yniphora):
