I referenced the Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace dollars and wonder if this could be a VAM 29 O with inside doubling of the 1st eight only.

As a side question, when I post a Morgan or Peace dollar VAM question like this, might I assume there is no need to mention which book I am using as reference? Perhaps it's just understood that all sources will call a particular VAM the same number? (Unlike Wexler and CopperCoins having different numbers when attributing cents.)

Can you add a close up of the mint mark?

FWIW '81-S can be a tough issue to VAM with all the date doubling and die ejection damage.

To me it looks like a mint mark set high.

I'll check it against some other positioning. Thanks again Dave.
