@new, it sure looks like damage to me. Is the underlying zinc core visible at all?

I thought that when I looked at it too. Its not, flat or cut into the coin its raised kind of like the letters are which is why I questioned what it was. I did compare it to another 2000 and there is nothing on the others I came across. Its odd which it why it stood out.

Hope that made sense, oddly placed comma so let me try that again. It's not dug into the coin or inverted in. Its raised off the coin like the lettering is.

Ok yes the bottom mark is raised, but are the top and middles ones too? I was thinking that the metal from those top three might have been deposited on that bottom.

well, there are ridges I can see light and shadows. can you post up another close-up with the lighting coming in from an angle (from one side only)?

You got it. Was not a computer screenshot though. It was from the microscope screen and got extemely fuzzy when I tried to change the size to post it.

If you are taking photos of your microscopes screen, please do not. Use a memory card in your scope.
