I am new to collecting coins and bought a couple silver dollars (from private) in the last months. I did mainly go by gut feeling, but have studied various websites with grading advice. I am still quite unsure especially about the divisions between XF / AU and AU / MS. So I would now like to compare my grades to what the community here thinks. I hope the pictures are good enough. Here goes no. 2, a 1884 Morgan dollar mintmark O. Edited by HP2001PH 07/15/2022 6:23 pm

Could you try to get a bit clearer of a reverse pic. Wondering what that green spot is on the eagles breast, also can't get a good read on the reverse surfaces

A coin known for soft strikes, but I'd have to say AU-55.

I see no wear on this coin. MS-63 Quote: Is there a die break on the top right wing? There appears to be a minor die crack that runs across the wing.

here is the case of a weaker strike. the 84(O) are known for softer strikes. the second reverse photo is the best place to see this using your photos especially the wings and breast definition.
another component to look at here is those weak areas on the reverse appear to have their luster intact. this tells me the coin may be MS and not AU but to be sure we need a better obv photo similar to the rev.
looking at a coin we use the letter K to designate hours on a clock. so K1 would be at 1 o'clock etc... on the reverse the leaves from K4-K5 are showing wear without luster so one may be able to glean from that circulation wear.
so as is I have to call it AU58 without a better obv photo

this is a tough one even with the new photos due to strike issues with this date. AU58 or MS63. I'm going to have to stick with my original grade of AU58. if it was circulated it was like 10min.
