The battle of Gettysburg was considered the turning point of the Civil war. General George Meade was awarded this medal by the Union Leaque of Philly in 1866.
A very interesting medal from a historical standpoint--and very nicely photographed! There must be a bit of symbolism going on in the reverse design with the sword with wreath, the fallen flag and other items.
