Bought this from the same dealer as the 1881 S, also 40€.

I would say it is MS, but with a lot of scatter on the obverse, so not a high number.

What do you say?

I lean toward AU-58 as well, lacks pop.

Yes, that is right. The field isn't as bright as the area around the stars, because the stars protect the field from wear around them.

86(P) are normally seen with strong strikes. yours looks pretty good for strike. luster does appear broke across the cheek and also the left obv field. typically this would not indicate an AU coin however in this case adding that to what appears to be some missing luster across the high point of the hair under LIBERTY as well the number and type of marks we are seeing on the lower 1/2 of the obv it does.

AU58. your price is decent for the coin but there is not much difference between all the AU grades for this year

AU58. Cheek has plenty of marks. Not a favorite.
