Anybody out there collect those things?
Im not really a big fan of them, I dunno, they look so drab, most of them are only worth FV, but I do understand there are some expensive 1974 varieties out there?
If there is anyone out there that collects them and has some valuable ones, any advise on how I could follow suit?
Just start buying up the Proof=Like sets that contain them and look for the double and other yoke varities?
Any other relevant information to share?
Thanks alot

If you are talking about nickel Dollars, then putting together a nice set can be a challenge. I have a few uncirculated dollars from the 1970's that have exceptional luster, and they look as good as any of the best coins out there. But pieces like this are very hard to find. I also have a few with heavy or ultra heavy cameos that are also quite impressive. Then there are a few I have that are exceptional varieties - some of which few folks know about. The plus side about collecting quality nickel dollars is that exceptional items can be had for very little. But it takes a lot of searching to find them. Its a nice area to develop a top end collection and not have to pay too much for it.

Thanks MKB, perhaps thats my problem with them.
Finding really nice examples are a challenge, and the only ones Ive really seen are the ones I previously called 'drab'.

Thanks for the info!!

I believe that nickel dollars are a highly under-appreciated area of Canadian numismatics. People, for whatever reason, find them "boring." I think it's an excellent area to start a collection since, as mkb said, there are some exceptional items out there. At some point this will be realized ... in my own opinion. Good topic!

I do collect these nickle dollars and my best advice is to check out the PLSet.ca site that specializes in these varieties.
