I recovered both out of another foreign coin grab bag, and out of about 10 frence centimes, these were the two that appeared to grade more then "very good." This is the 1855 one. This is the 1856. Also, I noticed something on weird on the 1856 coins mintmark, Is it double struck or does it just appear that way because of the condition of the coin? Thanks in advance. SeriousCERES Valued Member United States 365 Posts	Posted 02/15/2009 8:05 pm I'd call the first one VF or at least very near VF. A grading key for these is the outer-edge feather detail on each wing of the reverse. When those edges are completely flat, you're in the F-VF territory. On the other hand, the obverse looks pretty strong--note that the beard lines below the lips are still there, which is usually not the case in low grades. The second is definitely not getting above Good, with the apparent corrosion and deterioration marring an otherwise decent-looking pair of surfaces--after all no. 2 has better wing feathers than 1!
